About the player
Mikael Marqués arrived at Djurgården in February 2025 on a contract through 2028, a move that cost the club 5.5 million kronor. He landed already carrying an injury, went through rehabilitation on a training camp in Gran Canaria, and the recovery ran long enough that a first competitive appearance never came before the season ended.
He started out in the academies of Oxie SK and Kulladals FF before Landskrona BoIS took him on, and a move to IFK Malmö followed in 2017, where two seasons in Division 2 brought him 38 appearances. Spells at Jönköpings Södra and AFC Eskilstuna came next, the latter arriving on a free transfer.
In January 2023, Marqués signed for Minnesota United in MLS on a deal running three years with a club option for a fourth. It did not work out as a foothold in American soccer: he made a single first-team appearance, spending most of the year instead with the reserve side, MNUFC2, while working back from shoulder and ankle injuries. A loan to Västerås SK followed in February 2024, and the Swedish club made the move permanent that November after 14 appearances.
Djurgården signed him the following February. By early 2026, he had made four appearances for the club, the delayed start finally behind him.
