Orlando Gabriel Gaona Lugo

Orlando Gaona Lugo came through the Boca Juniors academy and made his first-team debut for the Argentine club in 2010. In three years there he won the Primera División twice, taking the Apertura title in 2011 and the 2011–12 championship, though first-team opportunities were scarce: 11 appearances, no goals.

A move to Olimpo followed in 2013, initially on loan before a permanent transfer sealed his place at the club through 2017. It became the longest and busiest spell of his career, with 53 matches and a single goal for the Bahía Blanca side.

Gaona returned to Paraguay in 2018, starting at Olimpia before a short stint with Guaraní. A move to Sportivo Luqueño in 2020 brought his best return in front of goal up to that point, four goals in 23 appearances.

He joined Nacional Asunción in 2021 and stayed two seasons, playing 69 times and scoring five goals before a brief move abroad to Peru's Deportivo Municipal in 2023. That spell lasted five matches without a goal, and by the end of the year he was back at Nacional, where he remains. In his second period at the club he has gone on to make 79 appearances and score eight goals.

At international level, Gaona was called up to the Paraguay national team in 2011, playing three matches without scoring.
