About the player
Philipp Ochs came through Hoffenheim's academy after starting out at SV Viktoria Wertheim as a boy, and he made his Bundesliga debut for the club in 2015. Loan spells took him to VfL Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga and then to Danish side AaB, where he scored the only goal of his 20 appearances during the 2018–19 season.
His progress at youth level pointed to more than a squad player. Ochs won the German U19 championship with Hoffenheim in 2014 and, two years later, was awarded the Fritz-Walter-Medaille in silver as one of the country's outstanding U19 talents. He was capped by Germany at every level from U15 to U21, including a run to the round of 16 at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea, where his side also won the U20 Elite League that year.
The senior career since leaving Hoffenheim has been steadier than spectacular. A free transfer to Hannover 96 in January 2020 brought his most productive spell in Germany, with three goals in 49 appearances, before a move to SV Sandhausen. In Austria, at First Vienna FC, he found the net six times in 53 games in the 2. Liga. Every one of his moves since Hoffenheim has come on a free transfer, and his switch to FC Würzburger Kickers in 2025 followed the same pattern. Left-footed and used on the left side, he has spent a career shuttling between Germany's second tier and spells abroad, still chasing the level his youth honours once promised.
