About the player
Rafael Chila arrived at Técnico Universitario in 2024 with a profile that still refuses to sit still on paper: some sources list him as a centre-back, others as a defensive midfielder, and the club itself has settled him into a squad number, 53.
He came through the youth ranks at Cuenca Juniors before completing the move to Técnico Universitario, signing for the Ambato club in 2024 on a deal running to the end of 2026. The transfer fee was never disclosed.
Since arriving, Chila has featured sparingly in Ecuador's Liga Pro Serie A, making eight appearances, three of them from the bench. He is yet to score for the club. There is no indication in current records of a call-up to any Ecuador youth or senior national team, nor of any silverware collected during his time in Ambato so far. At twenty, with a contract that runs another two seasons, Rafael Chila remains, for now, a work in progress at Técnico Universitario.
