About the player
He had come through the academy at Nazarenos, joined Sporting's youth system in 2005 and moved into the first-team setup in 2011, making 22 appearances before the B side became his regular football between 2012 and 2017. A loan season at Académica in Coimbra in 2014/15 brought 15 matches.
The move to Braga in 2017 gave him four seasons of first-choice football: 117 appearances and six goals. He won the Taça da Liga in 2019/20 and the Taça de Portugal in 2020/21, and was named in the Primeira Liga team of the season for 2019/20.
Sporting brought him back in 2021 for €5.5m, with a €45m release clause. The second spell in Lisbon ran to 2025 and produced 89 appearances and a single goal, but it was the most decorated stretch of his career: league titles in 2023/24 and 2024/25, the Taça de Portugal in 2024/25, the Taça da Liga in 2021/22 and the Supertaça in 2021.
Portugal capped him at every youth level from under-16 to under-23.
In 2026 he returned home to sign for Gil Vicente on a contract running to June 2028.
