Rijad Sadiku

Rijad Sadiku's road to Bosnian football began in Sarajevo, where he came up through the academy and, in 2015, captained no small part of that side's youth setup to a national pioneer championship title, winning the final 6-2. Two years later he broke into Sarajevo's own ranks before his career took an unusual early turn: at just eighteen, in January 2018, he was signed by Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron on a four-year deal, a move that took him out of the Balkans before he had established himself as a first-team regular anywhere.

The Mouscron spell did not lead to a settled career in Belgium, and by 2020 Sadiku was back in Bosnian football, moving between clubs in quick succession: Mladost Doboj Kakanj, then Zrinjski Mostar, then a return to Mladost, and on to Rudar Prijedor. The frequency of the moves reflected a player still searching for a consistent run of football rather than one tied to a single project. That search took him abroad again in 2022, when he joined FC Botoșani in Romania.

Sadiku's family background traces to Kosovo, with roots in the village of Radeshë in the Dragash municipality, but he built his international career with Bosnia and Herzegovina's youth setup. His most substantial spell came at under-17 level, where he made 26 appearances and wore the captain's armband, a tally that stands as a record for the age group. He also featured for Bosnia's under-15, under-16, under-19 and under-21 sides, though a senior call-up has not followed. His development was noted outside Bosnia as well: Sportivo360.com included him among the 60 greatest European talents born in 2000, one line on a list rather than an individual trophy, but a marker of the reputation he built as a teenager before his career carried him through Belgium, back across Bosnia, and into Romania.
