About the player
Rodrigo Catalán had been on the substitutes' bench for Colo-Colo before, but it was the 89th minute against Deportes Concepción that mattered: he came on for Arturo Vidal and made his first-team debut at 16 years, 11 months and 22 days old.
The forward came through Colo-Colo's own academy rather than arriving from elsewhere. He captained the club's Sub-16 side in 2025 and the Sub-18 side the following year, and in youth football he scored five goals in five matches in Chile's junior championship, numbers that marked him out before he ever trained with the first team.
The step up did not stay a one-off. Weeks after that appearance off the bench, on 14 and 15 May 2026, Catalán put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Colo-Colo, a deal that ties him to the club for three years.
He wears the number 34 shirt at Colo-Colo. For now, his story is still mostly about that academy record and the minutes he took over from Vidal; the rest of his career, at club and international level, remains to be written.
