About the player
Shae Holmes arrived at Seattle in 2023 as a second-round pick, taken 19th overall in the NWSL draft. She had already built a reputation in youth international football before turning professional, representing the United States at the under-16, under-19 and under-20 levels and winning the Concacaf Women's Under-20 Championship in 2020.
Her college career at Washington closed with a place on the Pac-12's All-Conference second team in 2022. In 2017, Gatorade had already named her Colorado's player of the year.
In her debut season with OL Reign in 2023, she was named to the Team of the Tournament for the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup, and was also put forward as the club's nominee for the Lauren Holiday Impact Award, recognition tied to work off the pitch rather than results on it.
Seattle's faith in Holmes carried into 2024, when the club — by then rebranded as Seattle Reign FC — signed her to a two-year contract extension.
