About the player
When Bodø/Glimt came for Villads Nielsen in March 2024, he had not made a single first-team appearance for FC Nordsjælland, where he had come through the youth academy. He joined as a free agent all the same, signing a four-year contract that runs to 2028.
The move paid off quickly. Nielsen became part of the squad that won the 2024 Eliteserien title, the club's fourth championship in five years, and settled into the centre-back role wearing the number 2 shirt. He also featured in the club's 2025/2026 Norwegian Cup campaign.
His standout moment came in Europe. On 23 October 2024, Nielsen scored a decisive extra-time winner against Sporting Braga in the UEFA Europa League, a goal picked out as 'Goal of the Day' and one that saw Danish media cast him as an overtime hero.
At youth international level, Nielsen has built up a substantial body of caps for Denmark: one appearance for the under-18s in 2023, fourteen for the under-19s across 2023 and 2024, during which he captained the side, seven for the under-20s in 2024 and 2025, and four for the under-21s since 2025.
