About the player
Wagner Caicedo's move to Técnico Universitario in March 2026 came about because a deal fell through elsewhere. He had been at El Nacional's academy since 2022, working his way up through the under-19 side, and in January 2026 he was promoted into the first-team fold. But the arrangement was never formalised: he was only "fichado de palabra" — signed on a verbal agreement — and as El Nacional's institutional and financial troubles deepened, no contract materialised. Caicedo left without having played an official match for the club.
Técnico Universitario picked him up as a free agent on 9 March 2026. He made his first appearance for the club on 18 April against Mushuc Runa, coming on from the bench. Three weeks later, on 9 May, he got his first start, away to Delfín SC, and made it count. He opened the scoring in the 21st minute, and Técnico Universitario went on to win the match 4-0.
