Jianan Wang

Jianan Wang's career carries the scar of a moment few defenders recover fully from. Playing for Guangzhou R&F on 15 April 2016, he suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament rupture after a tackle by Darío Conca. He had surgery in Germany and did not return to competitive football until 18 June 2017.

Before that setback, Wang had built a solid, unspectacular path through Chinese football. He came through the youth ranks at Henan Jianye, where he made 26 appearances and won the China League One title in 2013, featuring 13 times that season. His first senior goal came on 18 July 2012, in the Chinese FA Cup against Guangzhou Evergrande. In July 2015 he moved to Guangzhou R&F on a free transfer, the switch that preceded his injury the following year.

After recovering, Wang sought a change of scenery in February 2020, joining Japanese side Sagan Tosu in the J1 League on a free transfer. His time there was brief and limited to a single J.League Cup appearance. He returned to China in July 2021 with Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, where he settled into a regular role, making 42 league appearances.

In 2024 he joined Meizhou Hakka in the Chinese Super League, where he played 40 matches and scored once. Every move across his career, from Henan Jianye onward, has come on a free transfer. In February 2026 he signed with Shaanxi Union in the China League One, the latest stop in a career now well into its second decade.
