About the player
Kang Cao's career has run mostly through China's second tier. He came through the Jiangsu FA youth system before joining Jiangsu Suning's senior squad in 2014, though he never made a league appearance there — his only involvement came with a place in the 2016 AFC Champions League squad. A loan move to Heilongjiang Lava Spring in March 2017 put him in the side that won the China League Two title and secured promotion that year, and he made the switch permanent the following March.
He went on to make 120 appearances and score seven goals across five seasons at the club, by then renamed Heilongjiang Ice City, before leaving as a free agent in January 2023 to join Nantong Zhiyun. In February 2026 he moved on again, signing for Shaanxi Union.
The 2017 China League Two title with Heilongjiang remains the only team honour of his career, and he has not been capped by the Chinese national team. Across his career to date he has made 229 appearances and scored 12 goals.
