About the player
Zoran Mitrov joined Sassuolo's youth academy in Italy after a spell in UTA Arad's junior ranks. Mitrov returned to Romania to play in the domestic leagues, joining Ripensia Timișoara on a free transfer.
From there he moved to Brașov, also as a free agent, before Petrolul Ploiești signed him. FC Botoșani brought him in on a free transfer. He was named man of the match in Botoșani's league fixture against Unirea Slobozia in March 2025, and picked up the same award in a 1-0 win over Cluj.
Those displays fed into a first call-up to Romania's under-21 squad. Mitrov made his debut against Georgia in June 2025 and went on to appear at the European Under-21 Championship that same month, featuring in the match against Italy. He has three caps for the age-group side so far, without a goal.
