Alexis Jordán had already worked at Deportivo Lara and Monagas before he took over in Puerto La Cruz in 2023. It ended the way the first one had: a defeat, this time 0-1 to Yaracuyanos FC, after Angostura FC had won the 2022 decider 3-1.

Two second places in three seasons, and no promotion earned on the pitch. What put the club in the Venezuelan top flight for 2025 was a transaction rather than a result — Angostura FC gave up its place in the first division, and the Anzoátegui board bought the licence.

The club exists because something else stopped existing. Deportivo Anzoátegui was wound up in 2019, leaving the state without professional football, and the project founded on 18 December 2021 stepped into that gap without claiming to be the old club's successor — no shared ownership, no inherited record. It was run at first by people with no connection to the region, and only later became a structure of its own. For its first three years it was Academia Anzoátegui.

The nickname on the paperwork is Gladiadores. The kit is black with white trim at home and the reverse away.

The fixture that carries most weight is the Clásico Oriental against Monagas SC, a meeting of the two eastern states that the old club used to play and the new one inherited by geography.

Home is the Estadio José Antonio Anzoátegui, known locally as the Luis Ramos, with room for 37,485 — a ground built for a bigger tenant than a club four years old.
