Al Wahda FC

Two football clubs once shared the same corner of Abu Dhabi without sharing a badge: Abu Dhabi SC and Al-Emirates SC, fielding separate sides until they folded into one team. That merger, completed in 1984, is where Al Wahda's own account of itself begins, even though some older records point to a club of the same name active as far back as 1969, before it was absorbed into another side in 1974.

The team plays at Al Nahyan Stadium , tucked beside the Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi, a ground that holds 15,895. Locally the club is known as Al Annabi, and its shirts have stayed maroon, navy blue and white long enough that "The Maroons" has become the standard English rendering of the nickname.
