Altiri Chiba was founded in 2020, set up by the operator of the job-listings site Green, and named after the Esperanto word altiri — to attract, to captivate. It started in the B3 League, the bottom tier of Japanese professional basketball, in the 2021–22 season. It did not stay there long. A second-place regular season was followed by a playoff run that took the club straight up to the B2 League, and from there Altiri kept climbing: three straight Eastern Conference titles, in 2022–23, 2023–24 and 2024–25, capped by the B2 League Championship in 2025 and promotion to the top-flight B1 League for the first time. Andrej Lemanis, the former Australian national team head coach, took the team through that whole stretch, from B3 to B1. The club's finances changed shape along the way. In January 2025, Hulic, a major Tokyo-listed real estate and financial group, bought a controlling stake in Altiri's operating company.
