The team traces back to the works side of the Mineral Fertilizers plant, which took the field for the first time on 8 May 1993. Formal registration under the name Amkar followed on 6 December 1994, the word itself built from the opening syllables of ammiac and carbamide, the plant’s two main products.
The high point of that history came in the 2007/08 Russian Cup, when Amkar reached the final and lost to CSKA Moscow on penalties. In the league, the club never bettered fourth place, reached in the 2008 Premier League season.
Financial trouble cost Amkar its licence in 2018, and the original legal entity ceased to exist. Perm Krai authorities registered a new one in April 2021, bought back the brand and put a team out under the same name in the lower leagues; in 2025 it won its group in the Second Division.
