Vladimir Galkin left Yekaterinburg for the Kontinental Hockey League with a piece of history already attached to his name: in 2018–19 he was named MVP of the Kharlamov Cup playoffs after MHC Avto reached the final, the closest the club has come to the Junior Hockey League title, before losing 4–3 to Loko Yaroslavl. Galkin was not the only one to make that step up. Nikita Tryamkin and Anatoly Golyshev also passed through the club on their way to Avtomobilist's first team and, in Golyshev's case, the national team.

Formed in 2009 on the base of the reserve side Avtomobilist-2, when the newly created Junior Hockey League gave every Kontinental Hockey League club a reason to build one. It plays under the nickname Molodezhka, and the shirts carry Avtomobilist's blue, red and white.

The nearest thing to a grudge match runs against Belye Medvedy, Traktor's junior side from Chelyabinsk. Bronze medals arrived in the 2025–26 Junior Hockey League season, the club's best league finish outside that one run to the final.

Games are played at the Ice Arena named after A. Kozitsyn, a 1,500-seat rink not in Yekaterinburg itself but in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
