SKA-1946 goes into another Junior Hockey League season. The Saint Petersburg side reached the Cup final again in 2024/2025 before losing to Krasnaya Armiya.

The name on the shirt has nothing to do with when the youth team was formed. It marks 1946, the year the senior SKA side entered the first USSR Ice Hockey Championship, while the junior team itself grew out of a line of Leningrad army clubs stretching back to 1979 — VIFK, then Zvezda, then SKA-2 — before taking its current identity in 2009.

Ivan Demidov went fifth overall in the 2024 NHL Draft; Matvey Michkov and Alexander Barabanov came through the same system before him. The club plays out of Hockey City on Rossiysky Prospekt, a rink built for development hockey rather than spectacle, and derby nights against MHK Dynamo Saint Petersburg are the closest thing the fixture list offers to a rivalry with any local weight.
