Bc Roma

Rome gained two professional basketball clubs in 2026, and neither was built from scratch. Each arrived by buying another city's place in the league and moving it south. BC Roma SPQR took the sporting licence of Vanoli Cremona; the deal closed on 28 May and was announced the next day. Maxima Roma came from the relocation of Pallacanestro Brescia. The two now meet in the "Derby romano", a rivalry with no history behind it. What they contest is sponsors, supporters and players.

The project is led by Donnie Nelson, a former NBA executive who is managing partner and co-founder. The name on the poster is Luka Dončić, a co-founder and minority owner. Valerio Bianchini is honorary president. Bryan Colangelo and Chris Mullin sit on an advisory board that reaches back to the NBA.

On the court, the first season, 2026–27, is the first proof of any of it. Alessandro Magro is head coach. The first signing announced was the guard Nico Mannion, and the rest of the roster was built around him. The club plays in the Lega Basket Serie A and in the EuroCup, so it faces a domestic league and a European calendar in the same year. Its colours are red, yellow and black. The home shirt is white with red trim, and the away shirt is black.

The Palazzetto dello Sport, known as PalaEUR, is the smaller of the city's two big indoor arenas. The larger PalaLottomatica is a different building.

The Palazzetto holds 3,500.
