Brescia Clube

Nílson Gonçalves took over what was left of the club in 1999. A split among the partners had broken up Associação Desportiva Grande Rio, an amateur side from Magé that had been playing since 1 May 1982. Gonçalves and the partners who stayed on professionalised it. They then agreed a partnership with the Italian club Brescia Calcio, and for the 2000 season the team became Grande Rio Bréscia Clube.

The Italians supplied equipment and logistical support. Each season the Brazilians sent five players to Italy for trials. The arrangement ran until 2005. When it ended, the club kept the Brescia name, the badge and the white and blue colours.

The years just after the partnership were the club's best on the pitch. In 2006 it reached the semi-finals of the Campeonato Carioca Série C. In 2008 it finished 13th in the second division. That was also the year Léo Borges played for it before moving to Vasco da Gama. A year earlier the goalkeeper Renan had spent a loan spell there.

The nickname is Cigano, Gypsy, and it suits a club with no settled home. In 2009 the club renamed itself Queimados Futebol Clube so it could play in Queimados. The Rio de Janeiro Football Federation (FERJ) invalidated the change, and the name went back to Grande Rio Bréscia.

The Estádio Manoel dos Reis in Magé holds 5,000 and is the official ground. Without a permanent stadium of its own, the club has also turned out at the Estádio Romário Faria and the Estádio Luso-brasileiro. It has won no major title.
