Ceres clinched the Campeonato Carioca Série B1 title in 1990. That win did not come easy; it was the culmination of years spent grinding in the shadows of the city’s giants, played out on the terraces of the Estádio João Francisco dos Santos . With a capacity of only 3,000, the ground is unassuming.
The club’s identity is rooted in its origins. It emerged in 1933, born from the camaraderie of sailors from the First Naval District who lived on Ceres Street. For decades, the players wore sky blue and white, earning the nickname Alviceleste . The 2019 triumph in the Campeonato Carioca Série B2 proved that the club still had fight left in it.
Life in Bangu means sharing everything, including rivalry. Players like Ronan Falcão passed through during their peak years, bringing attention to the club’s efforts to compete at a higher level.
