Tigres Do Brasil

Xerém, a district of Duque de Caxias, is where Tigres do Brasil play, at the Estádio de Los Lários. Official capacity is 6,300, though some accounts put it as high as 11,000.

The club began in 2004 as Esporte Clube Poland do Brasil, named for the chemical company Poland Química, which backed the project. It became Tigres do Brasil later that year. Locals call it "Fera da Baixada", the Beast of the Baixada.

The Copa Rio is where the trophies are. Tigres won it in 2005, beating Macaé Esporte in the final, and again in 2009, when Madureira were the opponents. Giovanni Oliveira, a midfielder, stood out in those youth teams. Oziel, a right-back, was in the senior squad from 2008 to 2010.

In 2014 the club lifted the Taça Corcovado while playing under the name "Itaguaí Futebol Clube", a partnership arrangement. That was also the year Tigres finished runners-up in the Campeonato Carioca Série A2, as they had in 2008. In 2015 came a link with Corinthians, which allowed players from the São Paulo club to be loaned to Tigres.

The local rival is Duque de Caxias Futebol Clube, and the meeting between them is called the "Clássico da Baixada". Duque de Caxias is the better-known name in the city.
