Cape Verde reached the Women's Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 2026 and were drawn into Group D with Ghana, Cameroon and Mali. A draw against Cameroon was the return; defeats to Ghana and Mali ended it at the group stage.
The federation dates from 1982, but the women's team spent decades playing away from the islands. Its first home fixture came only in 2018, at the Estádio da Várzea in Praia, against Guinea-Bissau. Since then the 15,000-seat Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde has taken the WAFCON qualifiers — Liberia, Guinea, Mali — while the Estádio Marcelo Leitão on Sal hosted the WAFU Zone A Women's Cup in January 2023. Three years earlier they had come fourth in the same competition.
Ivânia Moreira has scored 10 goals since that 2018 debut season, more than anyone else who has played for the Blue Sharks.
Nothing has yet come from the qualifying rounds for a World Cup or the Olympic Games.
