Eschen / Mauren III

Eschen and Mauren are neighbouring villages in the Liechtenstein lowland, close enough that in 1963 their two football clubs stopped competing for the same players and merged. The date was 3 December 1963; the name that came out of it, Unterländer Spielervereinigung Eschen/Mauren, put the region ahead of either village. The third team plays under that name today, in Switzerland's 2. Liga Interregional — the fifth tier — because Liechtenstein has no league of its own.

Home for every side in the club is the Sportpark Eschen-Mauren on Rheinstrasse. Until 1998 it was the national stadium: Liechtenstein received its visitors here, on a ground with 2,000 places, 500 of them seated and under cover. The white shirt and blue shorts have not changed.

The third team is not a feeder side for FC Vaduz but a separate structure inside its own club, which is why its cup runs are worth reading. Third teams enter the Liechtenstein Cup through a preliminary round, and twice the side has come out of it and reached the semi-final — in 2017/18, beaten there by FC Balzers, and again in 2025/26, beaten by FC Vaduz. In between, the draw kept producing the same two names: Balzers won 6-1 in the last sixteen in 2024/25, and in 2023/24 FC Vaduz III got over the line on penalties after a 2-2 draw, 5-4.

David Hasler came through the club as a youth player, went to FC Vaduz for three seasons from 2010, and won 28 caps for Liechtenstein. He came back in 2015 and has been playing for the third team and coaching in the youth section since. Behti Kilic, once a FC Schaan player, runs the side.
