The Rheinau ground sits in Balzers and holds 2,000 people, 1,328 of them seated. It is where the second team of FC Balzers plays, on the same pitch and under the same badge as the side above it — the reserves have no crest, no nickname and no founding date of their own, because they were never set up as a club. They are a part of FC Balzers, which was founded on 1 May 1932.

Where the team plays its league football says something about the size of the country. Liechtenstein runs no national league, so Balzers II drop into the Swiss pyramid, into the 4. Liga of the Ostschweizer Fussballverband — regional amateur football, seventh or eighth tier depending on how you count. The blue and yellow are the parent club's.

The cup is the exception. Reserve sides of the seven Liechtenstein clubs may enter the national cup, and Balzers II have twice got as far as the semi-finals. In 2022–23 the draw brought them together with FC Balzers — the first team, the same colours — and that is where the run ended. The earlier semi-final, in 2015–16, was lost to FC Schaan.

Mario Frick, Liechtenstein's all-time leading scorer, played for the first team here. Others who turned out for the reserves — Roger Beck among them — arrived after their senior careers were already made, which is the usual traffic in a set-up this small.

The matches that matter locally are against FC Triesen and FC Triesenberg. Liga fixture would otherwise warrant.
