Cup (Liechtenstein) 2026/27

The Liechtenstein Football Cup, known as the Liechtensteiner Cup, is the only domestic football competition in the country. Organized by the Liechtenstein Football Association (LFV) since 1945, it serves as the sole route for Liechtenstein clubs to qualify for European competition, specifically the UEFA Europa Conference League. This status exists because Liechtenstein has no domestic league; its clubs play in the Swiss league system. Consequently, FC Vaduz, the only Liechtenstein club to play in the Swiss Super League, is excluded from the Swiss Cup. It must rely on this cup to reach European stages. The winner receives direct entry to the UEFA Conference League, whereas the Swiss Cup winner enters the Europa League. The competition is a knockout tournament involving all seven senior Liechtenstein clubs along with their reserve teams. A unique feature is the allowance of reserve teams, which can lead to intra-club matches in the semi-finals or a reserve team defeating its first team. The top three clubs are exempt from early rounds and can only meet from the quarter-finals onwards. The final is a single-leg match, typically held at a neutral venue like the Rheinpark Stadion, with penalties used to decide draws. FC Vaduz dominates the history, holding a world record 52 titles. The club won the last five consecutive editions through to the 2025–26 season. Other notable winners include FC Balzers with 11 titles and FC Triesen with 8. The cup has no promotion or relegation implications.

In the current landscape, the tournament includes sides such as Balzers, Eschen / Mauren II, Ruggell II, Eschen / Mauren III, Eschen / Mauren, and Triesen III. While the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons were cancelled due to the pandemic, the competition continues annually. FC Vaduz made history in 2022–23 by reaching the group stage of the Europa Conference League, the first time a Liechtenstein club achieved this milestone.
