Schaan

In the qualifying round of the 1994–95 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, Schaan travelled to face Pirin Blagoevgrad and came home having lost 3–0, adding to a goalless defeat at the Rheinwiese in the first leg. It remains the only European tie the club has played, earned by winning the Liechtenstein Cup that season — one of three occasions, alongside 1955 and 1963, on which Schaan has lifted the trophy.

Set against that, the list of runner-up finishes reads long: eleven in total, nine of them lost to FC Vaduz across four decades, from the 1950s cup finals through to 2015–16. Vaduz has never been treated as a derby rival in the way Ruggell or Triesenberg are — matches against those two clubs carry the weight of the Liechtenstein derby — but no opponent has stood between Schaan and the cup as often.

The club now sits in the 4. Liga, the eighth tier of the Swiss pyramid in which Liechtenstein's clubs compete, a long way down from continental competition but still contesting the cup that produced its best-known result. Blue and white have been the colours throughout, and Fabio D'Elia's career traces much of the modern club's shape: he came through the youth ranks between 1992 and 2001, left, and returned as a senior player from 2012 to 2015.

The Liechtenstein Football Association dates the club to 1932. Schaan itself marks its history from 1949, when it re-formed after the original side folded in 1938 for lack of money — the year the club, and its own account of itself, actually begins.
