Schaan II

For decades the second-string football in Schaan was not really Schaan's at all. The two sides ran alongside each other into the middle of the last decade. By 2019 Azzurri had turned into an over-30s veterans' outfit, and FC Schaan II was left holding the role on its own: the place where the young players of FC Schaan get their senior minutes.

Nobody has written down the year the second team started. The parent club dates its own reorganisation to 1 July 1949, and the reserves grew out of the youth set-up at some point after that, without a founding notice.

Liechtenstein runs no national league, so Schaan II play their weekly football inside the Swiss pyramid, in the 4. Liga, and their competitive life at home comes down to one tournament a year — the Liechtenstein Cup, which they enter in their own right rather than as an appendix to the first team. In 2023/24 that took them as far as the quarter-finals before FC Triesen put them out.

The cup draw is what makes the rivalries here, because in a country this size everyone eventually comes out of the same hat.
