Triesen II

There is little glamour in playing a season where a heavy defeat in the Liechtenstein Cup counts as the highlight, but that is the reality FC Triesen II has settled into. The team sits deep in the Swiss football pyramid, in the 3. or 4. Liga depending on the year, which puts it seven to nine tiers below the top flight and firmly in the territory of reserve football rather than genuine ambition.

The side exists to feed players upward into FC Triesen's first team, and that purpose shapes everything about how it is run. It was fielding teams from 1932, and joined the St. Gall Football Association league structure two years later — a long apprenticeship in a competition.

The Liechtenstein Cup has been unkind to them in recent memory. Twice, in 2022–23 and again in 2024–25, they reached the Round of 16 only to be beaten 0–18 by FC Vaduz, a scoreline that says more about the gap between Liechtenstein's top club and its feeder sides than about any given afternoon. An earlier exit, a 1–5 defeat to FC Schaan in 2018–19, fit the same pattern.

What gives the fixture list its edge is not Vaduz but Triesenberg, the neighbouring club whose matches against Triesen are known locally as the Trieser Derby — the one occasion in the calendar where the result matters more than the developmental purpose of the team.

Among those who passed through the Triesen youth and reserve setup, Nicolas Hasler is the name people bring up first. He went on to play in Toronto before returning to captain Liechtenstein's national team.
