Gyirmót SE was founded in 1993 in the Gyirmót district of Győr. A double NB III title in 2002 and 2004 got the club into the second tier by 2005, and by 2009 it had finished second in NB II — only to be denied a licence for the top flight. The breakthrough came in 2015/16, when Gyirmót won NB II outright and reached NB I for the first time, playing under the name Gyirmót FC Győr with the professional side run separately as Gyirmót FC Kft. since 2009. That first top-flight campaign, 2016/17, ended in bottom place and an immediate return to NB II. Five years later, the club was second in NB II in 2020/21, back into NB I for 2021/22, then relegated again.

The one fixture people still bring up predates any of that top-flight football. In 2015, Gyirmót beat Roma 2-1 in a friendly. László Lencse stood out in the 2020/21 promotion season with 11 goals, while Zsolt Kalmár, a Hungary international, joined the club in 2025.
