Csakvar

The ground in Csákvár carries the name of Ödön Tersztyánszky, and it holds around 2,500 people. The Tersztyánszky Ödön Sportközpont is a sports centre first, a football stadium second.

The club that grew out of it in 1947 spent most of its life well below the professional game. Aqvital FC Csákvár — the name comes from the sponsor, and the locals mostly just say Csákvár — now plays in NB II, the second division, which puts a village side in the same fixture list as clubs from Budapest and the big provincial cities.

That is the part worth pausing on. NB II asks for away trips, a licensed pitch, a squad paid to train rather than to turn up on a Saturday. A town of a few thousand does not generate that on its own, and the yellow and blue have stayed there without the trophy cabinet that usually underwrites it: no Hungarian championship, no Magyar Kupa. What the cup has given Csákvár instead is the draw — one tie a season with the chance of a name coming out alongside theirs, and a ground that suddenly feels small in the right way.

The rest of the calendar is the ordinary business of a second-division season, played out in front of a crowd that fits inside a single stand and knows most of the team by sight.
