BVSC

What followed had less to do with football than with Hungarian politics: under state socialism the club was renamed and merged more than once, passing through Vasutas Előre, Budapesti Lokomotív, and a 1954 fusion with Budapesti Előre and Budapesti Postás that produced Budapesti Törekvés before the old BVSC name returned after 1956.

The closest it came to the top was 1995/96, when BVSC finished second in NB I and reached the Magyar Kupa final the same season — good enough for a run in the UEFA Cup the following year and the Cup Winners' Cup the year after that.

The football side did not survive the years that followed intact: it shut down altogether in 2001 and stayed closed until 2012, when it restarted from the bottom of the pyramid under the current name, BVSC-Zugló, taken on after the XIV district council assumed the club's running in 2011.

Home games are played at the Szőnyi úti Stadion, which holds 12,000. NB I football, and the European nights that came with it in the mid-1990s, remain the one level the club has not found its way back to.
