Hutnik Kraków

Nowa Huta was built around a steelworks, and the works built a football team for its workers. The plant also turned out rubber goods, which is where the nickname Gumiory came from and why it stuck long after anyone cared what the factory pressed.

The team carried the plant's name through four changes of it — Stal Nowa Huta, then Hutnik Nowa Huta, and from 1984 Hutnik Kraków. The peak arrived in 1995/96: third place in the Ekstraklasa and a place in the UEFA Cup. Six years earlier the club had reached the semi-finals of the Polish Cup.

Then it ended. In 2010 the company running the club was wound up over its debts, and what replaced it was assembled by supporters — an association called Nowy Hutnik 2010 — starting again in the fifth division. It took until 2017 for the name Hutnik Kraków to come back. In 2019 the team won the Małopolska round of the Polish Cup, beating Pcimianka Pcim 5–2 in the final.

Michał Pazdan went from the academy to captaining Poland; Marcin Wasilewski and Łukasz Sosin also came through. Krzysztof Świątek scored 167 goals for the first team.

Home is Stadion Suche Stawy, officially Stadion Miejski Hutnik Kraków, rebuilt in 2020 and holding 1,669. A replacement seating 8,051 is planned between 2026 and 2029. These days the nearest thing is Wieczysta Kraków.

The older grudges say more about where the club came from — Stal Stalowa Wola, KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, other towns where the steelworks came first and the football club followed, in Hutnik's case on 21 March 1950.
