Internacional Laguna

No local rival has emerged yet for Internacional Laguna FC, and none was likely on the fixture list from the outset: the club's first two league occasions came away from home, at Estadio Tuxtepec against Racing de Veracruz and then against Héroes de Zací II, both goalless. What the Laguna region has instead is a gap the club was built to fill. Gómez Palacio, on the Durango side of the conurbation that also holds Torreón, had gone without a side in this tier of Mexican football, and the appearance of a new franchise there in August 2026 was presented as exactly that: a return, not a renaming. Internacional Laguna FC carries no predecessor and no rebrand behind it.

The club enters the Liga Premier Serie B, the third tier of the Mexican pyramid, for the Apertura 2026 as an expansion side with no honours to its name yet, which is simply the position of any team in its first season. Its head coach, Miguel Ángel Vargas, is Argentine and played for Santos Laguna, the dominant club of the same region, before taking charge of the newcomers.

Home matches are set for Estadio El Establo, inside the Unidad Deportiva Francisco Gómez Palacio, which holds 5,000. The two opening draws, both without a goal either way, were put down to a defence that held its shape rather than to any attacking spark, and the club has been referred to in reports simply as "el conjunto lagunero" — no nickname has taken hold, no colours have been fixed in the record, and no badge has surfaced beyond the presentation at the sports complex where the whole project was unveiled a month before it kicked off.
