The people who set up a football club in Donji Kokoti in the summer of 2021 did not inherit anything. No older side was folded into it, no dormant name revived — Internacional Podgorica was registered on 20 July 2021.
The ground came ready-made. Stadion Donji Kokoti had already served FK Podgorica, and it still takes in other local sides, FK Kom among them; Internacional are one tenant of several.
Two seasons in, they won the Central division of the Third League. Promotion still had to be earned through a play-off mini-tournament, and second place behind Lovćen was enough to go up. The Second League proved a different proposition: ninth, 32 points, straight back down.
Then they won the Central division again in 2024/25 — the same title, four years apart, with the failed stay in between. The club has never played in the Prva Crnogorska Liga.
