Jyvaskyla U20

Youth hockey in Jyväskylä took its current shape when the city's old multi-sport club, Jyväskylän Palloilijat, spun off its top hockey operation as a separate entity in 1977. The junior side itself was placed under a dedicated body, JYP Juniorit ry, formed in 1996 to run the club's youth teams, and the U20 group has since represented the parent club, JYP Jyväskylä, in the U20 SM-sarja, Finland's top junior league.

The team has won the league twice, in 2005–06 and 2010–11, with four runner-up finishes stretching back to the mid-1990s. What matters more than the medals is who passed through on the way up: Olli Jokinen and Jussi Jokinen both came out of the JYP system before long NHL careers.

Matches are played at LähiTapiola Areena, in red, black and white. The fixture that means the most is against KalPa Kuopio, the Järvi-Suomen derby, named for the lake district the two cities share — a meeting with HPK Hämeenlinna and Lukko Rauma carrying weight too.
