The 1963 Czechoslovak Championship title in Kolín belonged to men who played under the name Dukla Kolín, one of several the club has carried since organised volleyball took root in the city in 1963-1964, first as Jiskra Kolín, then Sokol Kolín. That earlier Sokol side had already won the national title twice, in 1948 and 1949, and Dukla followed with three more, in 1960, 1961 and 1963 — five championships inside fifteen years, all before the club existed in its present legal form. The current entity, SK Volejbal Kolín, was registered on 20 July 2004, a fresh start on paper for a volleyball tradition already four decades old.

Matches are played at Hala STAP, a hall shared with the vocational school SOŠ a SOU stavební Kolín rather than a purpose-built arena of the club's own. Blue and yellow remain the colours passed down through the changes of name.

The rivalry that matters most to SKV Kolín is local and geographic before it is anything else: with the other Bohemian and Moravian clubs that trace their own roots back to the same wave of 1960s Czechoslovak volleyball, where a hall like Hala STAP counts for less than the shirt.
