KuPS Women

When Pallokissat handed its top-flight place over to KuPS Oy in 2018, the women's game in Kuopio had already been passed between clubs for four decades. KPT played in the highest division from 1974 to 1985 and had taken silver in 1973. KMF, founded in 1987, reached the top tier in 2003 and finished third in 2008 and again the year after. Pallokissat, formed in 2007, came up in 2012 and took bronze in 2014.

The KuPS women's side started under its own name in 2019, inheriting that place rather than earning promotion into it. In its first season in the league — renamed Kansallinen Liiga from 2020 — it finished third. Champions of Finland in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Home is Kuopion keskuskenttä, also carrying the name Väre Areena, where the main stand holds 2,700 and the end stand another 500, for a total of 4,778. The yellow and black are shared with the men's team, as is the badge; the nickname Keltamusta follows from the colours.

The sharper edge, though, is closer to home. Every rival the club has in its own city is part of its own past — KPT, KMF and Pallokissat all played this league before KuPS did, and the last of them gave up the place the current team occupies.
