Åland United

The ground in Mariehamn where Åland United play carries the name of a local shipping magnate, Anders Wiklöf, and it is a modest place by top-flight standards. On a full night the arena holds around 4 500.

The club itself came out of an arrangement between two island sides, Lemlands IF and IF Finströms Kamraterna, who agreed in 2004 to pool what they had rather than each run a women's team that could not compete. For the first four seasons the arrangement sat under Lemlands IF; independence came in 2008. Promotion to the top division had already arrived in 2005, which meant the players spent those early years learning the level while the club was still, on paper, somebody else's section.

The first championship followed in 2009, then another in 2013. What changed the club's shape, though, was 2020: the league title arrived alongside the first Finnish Cup.

Steve Beeks, an Englishman, was in charge for two spells — 2010 and 2011, then a return from 2021 to 2024 that covered the second and third of those cup wins. Daniel Norrmén has the job now.

Adelina Engman came through here before Chelsea signed her, and Anna Westerlund, who played for the club, joined the coaching staff in 2025.
