Lugano Tigers

The Tigers today are a club of 1,000 seats and a youth academy. Their home is the Istituto Elvetico hall, and the Tigers Academy feeds it. The last league title came in 2014, and the most recent trophy in the club's list is the 2015 Supercoppa. Fribourg Olympic, the side they met so often in finals and cup ties, is still the opponent that matters most.

The name itself is a repair job. The club began in 1981 as FV Lugano, a merger of Federal Lugano and AS Viganello. In 1999 it became the Lugano Snakes, and under that name it won three league titles in a row, 2000 to 2002, along with two Swiss Cups. The Snakes organisation collapsed, and in 2003 the Tigers were set up as the successor. It counts the Snakes' titles and those of FV Lugano as its own, which is how the eight league championships add up: three as Snakes, five as Tigers.

Most of the Tigers' five came with one player on court. Derek Stockalper played for the club from 2007 to 2018. In 2014 he was named league MVP, the year the team took the title again. Travis Watson shared the MVP honour that season. Michael Efevberha and Travis Walton passed through in 2009–10, when the club was building towards the 2010, 2011 and 2012 titles.

Those years brought the league cup as well, in 2011 and 2012.
