SAM Massagno

Massagno's basketball history runs through Lugano. The two have shared the same small canton for decades, which does more to explain the club's identity than any trophy cabinet.

SAM Basket Massagno grew out of a youth sports group, SAM Atletica, formed by a handful of young people in the canton in 1964. What has followed since has been a career spent mostly chasing the top division rather than dominating it: the club has never won the Swiss championship at the highest level, and its two Lega Nazionale B titles, from 1984-85 and 2007-08, were second-tier promotions rather than crowns. That changed, in a smaller way, in the 2022-23 season, when the club won the SBL Cup and followed it with the Swiss Supercup.

The current generation carries the Mlađan brothers, Dušan and Marko, who have been central to that recent run of results. Behind the first team, the club's youth academy has built a reputation of its own, having produced players such as Yuri Solcà.

Massagno plays its home games at the Palestra di Nosedo, opened in September 2017, in front of a ground that holds 1,000 spectators.
