The club began in 1959. In 2013 Union won the Swiss Cup, and a year later the Swiss League Cup. Two of the players from those seasons are worth remembering. Babacar Touré, a Senegalese international, arrived in 2013 and stayed until 2016. Brian Savoy, an Argentine-born Swiss point guard, joined the same year and stayed until 2019.

Trophies proved harder to come by after those two cups. Union reached the Swiss Cup final again in 2015 and finished second in the league that year and the next, in 2015 and 2016. They were beaten finalists in the league once more in 2022. The most recent cup final came in 2025 and ended the same way, as had the first, back in 1995.
