Mokpo City

The gold medal at the 2024 National Sports Festival, in the men's senior division, is the biggest thing Mokpo have won. The festival is a domestic multi-sport event, and the club had been near it before: a bronze in 2011, when the team was still run by the city office and going by the name Mokpo City.

That origin explains a good deal. The team was set up on 24 December 2009 as a side operated by the Mokpo City Office, and it played in the Korea National League for over a decade. In 2021 it was rebranded as FC Mokpo, and its running passed to the foundation behind the Mokpo International Football Center. The change of name came with a change of league, to the K3 League. Two years later the club finished as runners-up there.

The slogan "Uri-neun Mok-po-da" (We are Mokpo) is the nearest thing the club has to a nickname. The natural rival is Jeonnam Dragons, from the same South Jeolla Province. In the League Cup, Mokpo reached the semi-finals in both 2013 and 2014.

A midfielder and a key figure at Mokpo, he later won the K3 League title with Hwaseong FC, the division in which his old club came second.
