Namibia

In 2021 Namibia beat the Netherlands, then beat Ireland, and by doing so reached the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup for the first time in the country's history — the first victories the team had ever recorded at a global tournament, David Wiese named Player of the Match against Ireland. It followed a much harder World Cup introduction eighteen years earlier, in 2003, when Namibia lost all six group games, Australia beating them by 256 runs.

Cricket Namibia had joined the International Cricket Council as an Associate Member in 1992, the affiliation growing out of a tour of Botswana three years before. The side, known as The Eagles, wears blue and red, taken from the national flag. Its clearest title came in the 2009–10 ICC Intercontinental Shield, won by beating the United Arab Emirates by six wickets in the final; a decade earlier, at the 2001 ICC Trophy, Namibia had gone the other way, finishing runners-up to the Netherlands. The African Nations Tournament followed in 2004, and in 2023 came both a regional final win that opened the road to the T20 World Cup and a silver medal at the African Games, lost to Zimbabwe in the final.

Zimbabwe remains the fixture that matters most. Jan Frylinck has also worn the captaincy and built a reputation as an all-rounder.

Namibia plays its cricket in Windhoek, the capital, at a ground in the same city, having moved there from the old Union Ground.
