Harare Sports Club is Zimbabwe’s primary Test venue, with a capacity of around 10,000.

Zimbabwe Cricket was formed in 1981, and the side joined the International Cricket Council as an Associate Member. The team's early identity was built on one-day cricket: it won the ICC Trophy in 1982, 1986 and 1990, results that carried it to Full Member status and Test cricket in July 1992, with a first Test against India that October.

The Chevrons never turned that early promise into sustained Test strength, and their best World Cup returns — Super Six finishes in 1999 and 2003, a Super Eight in the 2024 T20 World Cup — mark the ceiling rather than a stepping stone. More recent qualification wins, in the 2022 Global Qualifier B and the 2025 Africa Regional Final, point to a side still fighting from the qualifying rounds rather than the top table, with South Africa as the neighbour they measure themselves against. Red shirts, green trousers and yellow trim carry the national flag onto the field for white-ball cricket; in Tests they revert to white, played out, as ever, under the jacaranda trees of Harare Sports Club.
