Noroeste

Men working the Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil put the club together on 1 September 1910 and gave it the line's name, and Noroeste has carried the railway in its title ever since.

The old ground on the edge of the city has had a complicated life. Fire closed the Estádio Alfredo de Castilho in 1958; it reopened, spent four years under a different name from 1960, and got its own back in 1964. Locals still call it the Alfredão. Its biggest night came on 15 September 1974, when Palmeiras visited and 23,876 people got in — a figure the ground, now listed at 15,420, will not see again.

Most of what Noroeste has won has come from below. Four titles in the São Paulo second tier, the first in 1943 and the last in 1984, then two more a division further down, in 1995 and 2022. The Copa Paulista arrived twice, in 2005 and 2012.

Richarlyson finished his playing days here across 2018–19 and again in 2021, which brought the family full circle: his father Lela is a figure at the club from an earlier era, a Brazilian champion with Coritiba. Ralf started in the red and white in 2008 before Grêmio Barueri and then Corinthians.
