Robina City

Robina City finished top of Queensland Premier League 2 through the regular season, then had to go again in the play-offs, beating North Star in the final to add the champions' title to the premiership. A few months earlier the same side had taken Lions FC to penalties in the fourth round of the Kappa Queensland Cup and lost 5-4 after a 2-2 draw.

Before the men's team got there, the women had already been the ones going deep. In 2022 the side reached the FQPLW 2 Grand Final and lost to Taringa Rovers. The women's team now plays in the Queensland Premier League Women.

The club came out of the Robina district on the Gold Coast in 1992, and it has stayed a neighbourhood operation: home matches are played at Robina Common Field 1, which holds 1,000. That is the scale of the thing — a suburban ground.

Jason Buchanan, a former professional from Scotland, works at Robina City as an accredited West Ham United academy coach. One player, Taylor, started at Robina City before moving to Gold Coast United.

The fixture list is full of Gold Coast neighbours — Gold Coast Knights, Southport Warriors, Broadbeach United, Palm Beach Sharks — but none of those meetings carries a derby name that anyone outside the region would recognise.
