RTC Women

Royal Thimphu College Women's Football Club is still owned and run by the college, and still plays where the country's football happens.

It took one season to win the BoB Bhutan Women's National League, and a second to win it again — the 2024 title arriving without a defeat, which is where the "invincibles" tag came from. Two seasons in the country's top competition, two championships.

The domestic dominance opened a door that no Bhutanese women's club had walked through before. When the AFC Women's Champions League launched its first edition in 2024/25, RTC entered it. The squad that went out to Asia was not purely local: alongside players developed at home, the club brought in footballers from Bangladesh and Mexico for the continental fixtures. Captaining it was Suk Maya Ghalley , 26 and from Gelephu.

The preliminary rounds gave nothing away. Bam Khatoon of Iran and Kitchee of Hong Kong both beat them, and the campaign ended before the group stage. Head coach Lobzang Dorji has a side that has not yet lost a domestic match it needed to win and has not yet won a continental one.

That is the gap.
