Shiga Lakes open the season back in B1, the top tier they lost a year earlier. Relegated to B2 for 2023–24, the club beat the Koshigaya Alphas in the final to secure promotion for 2024–25.

The team traces its start to Otsu, where it became Shiga Prefecture's first professional sports franchise and entered the bj-league for the 2008–09 season, though the company behind it was registered a year earlier, in August 2007. When the bj-league merged with the National Basketball League in 2016 to form the B.League, Shiga went in as a founding member of B1.

Shiga Lakestars became Shiga Lakes for 2022–23, and the following March brought a change higher up: Tai Nakayama, president of Sun Chlorella, bought a 74.2% stake in the club. David Gomez was still in charge when the B2 title was won in 2024; by that summer the bench had passed to Kenjiro Maeda, who has carried the team through its return to B1.

Home games are played at the Shiga Daihatsu Arena in Otsu, in front of crowds, under a lake-blue home kit built around the club's blue, yellow and platinum colours — a nod to nearby Lake Biwa, also the inspiration for the catfish mascot, Magnee.
